For 3 years I struggled to make the girls, seated and hunched, until I saw the picture of the 82 freed girls, released in exchange for 5 Boko Haram members. Suddenly, I saw them as survivors, not victims, in their spirit of elation. As a survivor of domestic violence myself, I wanted to celebrate their strength, joy and resilience. But there are still 93 girls unaccounted for and many thousands more have been kidnapped since then.
